Champagne Sunday Brunch; Voila, Sofitel Sukhumvit

voila sunday brunch01 One of the best things to do on a Sunday in Bangkok is waking up late and as soon as waking up go to a Sunday brunch. There is nothing more convenient than staying at a hotel that is offering a Sunday Brunch. While we were staying at the Sofitel Sukhumvit that is what we did.



Voila is located on the second floor of Sofitel Sukhumvit. The restaurant atmosphere is very warm and pleasant. There are large windows facing Sukhumvit road which provide beautiful day light to the dinning space. The dinning space surrounds an atrium space that open to the lobby below. During the brunch there is a band playing jazz to old classics and current modern pop.

We were seated at the table by the balcony; it provides a nice view of the lobby where the band is playing. First thing the staff asked us was “Would you like Champagne?”. I answered “Of course, YES” with a smile. Lombard Champagne was chilled and served without hesitation.  The mesmerizing golden color and the sparkle of the bubbles woke me up. The first sip made the day brighter.

No matter how big your stomach or your appetite is, I can’t imagine someone trying all the food. You have to be wise and selective and choose only the ones you really want. There many stations offering a wide range of cuisine. First stop is the raw and chilled, they have many usual items; king crab, Thai blue crab, pawn, oysters, clams. Escargot (French snail) is something I don’t see much in the buffets. Tried it, didn’t like it but for someone who does might go crazy. The one item I was impressed was the French Crab. It was very large in size not much crab meat but it was filled with crab fat and eggs.

There are many other stations; sushi/sashimi, cured meats, Thai, Chinese, pizza, desserts, and a made to order station. The made to order station has many premade delicacy from fish to beef and fresh produce to cook as ordered. Two of my recommendations are the foie gras and the grilled lobster.  The lobster was cooked perfectly. It is one of the best lobsters I had in a buffet. There are a lot more food than I can write about here, many varieties of delicacy on display. Though not as much as the larger establishments but the quality is there in the top 10.
