Shintaro’s Sweet Taste of Japan

| June 7, 2012

Ayu a small, sleek fish native to many rivers, lakes and coastal waters of Japan is as Japanese as a cherry blossom.  It is celebrated as being, when skewered and grilled over a fire, one of the tastiest of all river fish.  As it has a distinctive sweet flavor with aromas of melon and cucumber, some say, Ayu is also known as sweet fish and remains a favorite in Japanese cuisine.  To Japanese gourmands, the word Ayu conjures up images of summer, the countryside, and sweet aroma.
