Baan 2459 Yaowarat
“Baan 2459”, is the building with the design of Sino-Portuguese Architecture that is remarkably beautiful with the hidden charm of long history inside of it. It is located in the historic area of Yaowarat. It is presumably built around the year of 2459 B.E. (1916 A.D.) which was in the reign of King Rama 6.
Mr. Suksan Aueareechon, Managing Director said, “From the history of this house, it is originally the heritage of Vadanyakul family. It is quite challenging to refurbish this building because it is aged more than 100 years. The original building design did not include any bathroom inside. The designer tried very hard to re-design the sanitation system without having impact on the scenery outside of the building. Moreover, the air-conditioning system added into the building is required to be totally concealed inside the wall and ceiling. And there is also a requirement to keep all materials such as doors, windows, wooden stairs and lime-written ceilings in order to retain the building’s original state as close in the past as possible”.
“Baan ๒๔๕๙” features four-room hotel. Each room is named based on the hotel’s name. So they are called Room ๒, ๔, ๕, and ๙. The Thai numerical characters are used to represent the rooms. It is aimed to let the visitors feel like being real invited guests of the wealthy-classed people of the past. All furniture is of antique design. Each room has been decorated with its individual color and tone. And most importantly, the bathrooms provided by the hotel owner are intended to be most beautiful and luxurious but still full of classic charm of their own. They are decorated with marble, bathtub with stand, and brass chandelier.
The Exclusiveness of Each Room
Room Two: This is an exclusive room with its own entrance stair. That is why it is considered to be the most private room. It is decorated using green-colored tone and dark-colored wood. The most special part of this room is the lime-written ceiling of a century years old. The hotel has taken care of it so that people will see the beauty of the decoration in that time. Also, this room is more luxurious with the antique brass chandelier hanging over the four poster wooden bed. When you open your eyes waking up, you might have a feeling that you went back in time to that era. It will definitely be a memorable experience.
Room Four: This is a twin-bedded room. The twin beds are modified from 2 antique single beds. It is decorated using light-gray-colored tone and white wooden wall with the photographs of the important locations of the past. The balcony at the back of the room can be opened to access the back of the hotel. The bathroom is decorated with antique floor tiles with the classic bathtub with stand.
Room Five: The light green velvet sofa contrasting with the yellow-colored tone wall is the first thing you will see when you first step into the Room ๕. This suite is on the second floor of the building. The front garden of the hotel can be seen from inside of this room. It is decorated with its original wooden floor and high ceiling that will offer the comfortable feeling to the guests.
Room Nine: The tranquil and reserved atmosphere of the light-blue-colored tone contrasting with the dark blue velvet sofa makes the Room ๙ be the most favorite among couples visiting the hotel. In addition, the light passing through the filtering layer of the wooden curtain will make this room glittered even more beautifully. Moreover, the specialty of this room is its height of ceiling, which is as high as 5 meters. This will offer great comfort to anyone coming into the room. If you take a closer look, you will see the air ventilation at the wall.
The idea came from the ancient wisdom of the craftsman of the past. It was built to transfer heat from interior to exterior of the house. This will make the temperature inside the room vastly different from the outside.
