Thailand Restaurant News is rocking the restaurant industry with “Bangkok Restaurant Charity Week 2013” to be held from August 7 to 11. Held under “Bangkok: the City of Borderless Gastronomy” concept, the project is, for the first time in Thailand, to bring top chefs in the country and from around the world, some of which are Michelin-starred chefs, to work together for a charity gala dinner in Bangkok between August 7 and 11. Brainchild project by Thailand Restaurant News (TRN), the project is supported by The Royal Project, Marriott Thailand, Le Cordon Bleu Dusit, and leading chefs in Thailand and Asia. The charity project is also supported by business operators in food service industry, which are Jagota Brothers Trading Co Ltd, Kim Chua Group, and Bangkok Beer and Beverages Co Ltd; and operators from other sector which are leading global bank, CitiBank, Go Magazine, and Bangkok 101 Magazine. Net proceed will go to The Royal Project.

“We saw an opportunity to create new phenomenon for our fine dining scene, which will help raise the local standard to the international level. Bangkok has largely been named as world’s best tourist destination. We would love to make Bangkok the next destination for the foodies from around the world,” said Chattaporn Yoelao ,Managing Director of Thailand Restaurant News.

Despite its inaugural year, Bangkok Restaurant Charity Week 2013 has attracted top chefs from fine dining restaurants in and outside of Thailand. The top chef list sees chef Pongtawat “Ian” Chalermkittichai and chef Peter Pitakwong from SMITH; chef David Thompson from Nahm; chef Haikal Johari from Water Library; chef Gaggan Anand from Gaggan; chef Duangporn “Bo” Songvisava and Dylan Jones from Bo.Lan; chef Thomas and Mathias Suhring from Mezzaluna; chef Norio Nomoto and chef Suriyan Pholken from JW Marriott Bangkok; chef Alvin Leung from two Michelin-starred Bo Innovation in Hong Kong; and chef Gabriel Hedlund from Water Library in Rangoon. The top chefs will be creating nine-course dinner paired with nine choices of wine by Wirote Leetrakul, wine guru of Thailand. Ingredients for each course will be carefully chosen by the chefs from The Royal Project in Chiang Mai.

The charity gala dinner on August 7 is set to be the highlight of the Bangkok Restaurant Charity Week 2013. However, the dinners on August 8, 9, and 10 will be equally special with “Special Wine Dinner” at three restaurants that foodies can’t miss. “Miracle 8” at Amarone will be presented by three Michelin-starred chef Juan Amador. It’s for the first time for renowned Australian-born Thai cuisine chef Thompson to meet with chef Pongtawat and chef Bo and chef Dylan in “Thai Modern VS Thai Authentic” dinner; the dinner will be held at chef Nuroor Somany Steppe’s Blue Elephant. The closing dinner will be presented by chef Leung and Chef Sara “Ton” Jirarat who are passionate about modern cuisine, to be held at Aston on Sukhumvit 31.

More events will also be held during the charity week. Priced at Bt999++, “Big Taste” food promotion will be held at various restaurants which are Hyde and Seek, SMITH, Little Beast, In the Mood for Love, Quince, Lulivo, Supanniga eatimg room, Another Hound Café, Whale’s Belly, The Local by Oamthong, Harvey and Wine I Love You. Signature dishes of each restaurant will be selected for the special set. The ingredients will be supplied by Jagota Brothers Trading Co Ltd and Kim Chua Group. CitiBank card holders can also enjoy the privilege by buying the promotion at only Bt899++.

Master Class and Workshop is another highlight of the charity week. It features “Cuisine Trend” by four chefs, which are Ian, Pete, Gaggan, and Leung; “Modern Mixologist” by Thai rising star Nath Art-Han in Singapore; “Wine Class” by wine gurus which are Viroj Leetrakul, Piyapong Kanjanathanon, and Yvonne Chiong. Wine classes will include the exclusive wine from Rhone, New world wine and renowned Opus One from Napa Valley.

ProSom 2013, a sommelier competition, will also be premiered during the charity week. Its concentrated content and challenging tests will screen only the qualified competitors and select only the best as the winner. Free admission for the competition.

Bangkok Restaurant Charity Week 2013 will never be perfect without Bangkok Top 20 Best Restaurant 2013 and Bangkok Top 20 Chefs 2013 announcements. The award presentation to most voted 20 chefs, 15 suppliers, and 15 members of media will be held at Renaissance Bangkok Ratchaprasong Hotel.

The above-mentioned will be happening during the charity week, making Bangkok the city of borderless gastronomy and the next destination for foodies around the world.
