the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit

Lovers of fine wines and exceptional Thai cuisine are invited to join the Springfield Estate Winemaker Dinner at basil, the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit’s award-winning restaurant on Friday, February 27th.

Winemaker Jeanette Breuwer will present a selection of outstanding wines from her renowned family-run vineyard, the Springfield Estate. Set in the heart of the mountain-ringed Robertson Valley in South Africa's Western Cape Province, Springfield Estate is run by Jeanette and her brother, Abrie, fourth-generation wine farmers and ninth-generation descendants of the Bruères, French Huguenots who came to South Africa from the Loire in 1688 with bundles of vines under their arms. The real magic of Springfield lies in the bottles of hand-crafted wine it produces, true gems of tradition, which offer both quality and individuality in keeping with the estate's motto: “from the grape to the bottle with care and passion.”

The evening’s dining will begin with a pre-dinner drink of Firefinch Sauvignon Blanc 2006, a dramatic wine full of gooseberries, elderflowers and passion fruit. Jeanette will be present and delighted to discuss the wines of Springfield Estate with guests.

Recognised as one of the country’s leading culinary talents and winner of many prestigious awards, Chef Thanida Amornvatin of basil has created a special menu to match the superb Springfield Estate wines.

Dishes served will include pohpia poo, crispy spring rolls with crabmeat and a dipping sauce, pla koong apple kiew, spicy prawn salad with green apple, and massaman kae, a southern-style lamb curry. Wines to accompany the dishes include Live from Stone Sauvignon Blanc 2007, a wine produced from 22-year-old vines grown in the rockiest soil on the estate. Brilliant greenish in appearance, this is a dramatic wine full of ripe red peppers and passion fruit. Next, a complex un-wooded Wild Yeast Chardonnay 2005 fermented with native yeast present in the vineyard to create a wine that abounds with flavours of pineapple and pear drops will delight dinners and pair perfectly with Chef Thanida’s creative cuisine.

The first of two reds served during the evening will be the Whole Berry Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, a velvety wine produced, using traditional methods. Work of Time Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, a Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot that receives 18 months maturation in the barrel, followed by a further 18 months in the bottle to create a wine of distinction will end the meal on a high note.

The Springfield Estate Winemaker Dinner will be held at basil on Friday 27th, from 7.30 pm onward, only Baht 2,800++. Due to the popularity of these outstanding events, advance booking is highly recommended. For reservations, please call 02 6498366.
