Phra Sumeru Fortress

Phra Sumeru Fortress, built in the reign of King Rama I, is the largest existing fortress of all 14 which now only two exist. The other is the Mahakan Fortress. The large area was established as a public park on the occasion of the 6th cycle of King Rama IX on the December 5th, 1999. Entrance is free for all; prohibited areas are the fort itself (octagon shaped buildings with wall surrounding) and the Thai-style pavilion, which is for royal ceremonies.

Joe is an American who now prefers to live mostly in Thailand. "Vacation time for me is in Thailand."
Since the opening of the park many interesting activities take place and develop. In a location by the river front it is one of the extraordinary public spaces in the center of Bangkok. It automatically became an attraction for locals and foreigners.

Sarai comes here regularly spinning poi which originated from Polynesia. She and Joe teaches the children and people interested in the craft.
This is one of the best places to do Aerobic. You get the river view with the view of Rama VIII Bridge. On a clear day the sunset here can be very dramatic.

Uot is a regular here. He is well known among the jugglers and juggle enthusiast with his creativity and skill in juggling. He teaches and creates his own juggling equipments.
At the time when this image was taken there was a large crowd waiting to see the rehearsal of Majestic Chao Phraya River Royal Barge Procession for the APEC CEO summit meeting 2003 held in Bangkok. Uot rehearsing for his show. He gets contact to do juggling shows regularly.
