Sunday Brunch at Colonnade, the Sukhothai Bangkok

Address:Colonnade, the Sukhothai Bangkok

A combination of traditional Sukhothai period decoration and a hint of western influence give Colonnade an elegance ambience- an ideal set up for an enjoyable meal. Generous quantity and supreme quality are the strengths of Colonnade because the food is always refilled and the quality never drops. With such superb quality of food and relaxing ambience, no wonder Colonnade has become a lot of people’s choice for a perfect Sunday with family.

Although Colonnade’s Sunday brunch is usually fully booked, its spacious dining space is never overcrowded. Colonnade is divided into two sections. The first section is the main buffet display, which includes the main dining hall. The second smaller section is where desserts and fruit juices are displayed. On that day, I was seated in the smaller section behind the dessert display. Though it was a bit far from the main food display, the smaller section was more peaceful.
The most striking feature of the buffet display was its chilled seafood, where you’ll find Maine lobster, Japanese king crab, different types of oysters and other assorted fresh seafood. Maine lobster and Japanese king crab are not the usual find in other Sunday brunch in Bangkok, so don’t miss the opportunity to try them here. Deserving the reputation of the best lobster in the world, Maine lobsters are sweet and tender. Although some real lobster fans prefer them with clarified butter, I also like them with the traditional Thai spicy seafood sauce. The Japanese king crab tastes quite similar to Alaskan king but the spikes of Japanese are sharper, so be careful when you peel them. For seafood lover, this section alone can keep you busy for a while. Additionally, Japanese cuisine like tempura, assorted sashimi and sushi are also offered. Don’t forget to try its salmon sashimi and Japanese clams. After the first bite, you can tell right away that Colonnade uses the only best quality imported fish.
Need something heavier than seafood, don’t forget to try its juicy and tender prime rib or whole grilled lamb. Pan-fried foie gras station here is a must try because it uses goose liver not duck like many other places. Therefore, the size of foie gras is huge and thick. A perfectly seared French foie gras served with apple chutney, balsamic vinegar reduction and raspberry sauce will certainly make you ask for more. Extensive selection of Italian pasta and Thai noodle dishes are also offered and tailored to your liking.

Many people would agree that dessert is a must to a perfect ending of a great meal. Colonnade won’t disappoint dessert lovers because it offers a whole room filled with yummy desserts. My favorite was Sticky Toffee Pudding. The aroma of the pudding combines with its various condiments like pistachios, sunflower seeds, walnuts, prunes, etc. gives a unique flavor and texture that you can customized to your taste. Chocolate fountains, chocolate truffles, crepes, homemade ice creams are also available. For coffee lovers, Colonnade serves Lavazza coffee, so please enjoy!!
