I recently had Sunday brunch at Shangri La’s NEXT2 Café and Terrace with my family and enjoyed the liveliness of the dinning area and wide variety of cuisine it offers. We were seated in the main dinning area in the Café which is beautifully decorated with jars of colorful pickle, jams and preserved whole fruit while a lot of people prefer to be seated outside at the terrace nearer to the river. Seating indoor or outdoor is equally comfortable and does not really make a difference about the distance you walk to get your food because the buffet stations are both in the Café and the terrace area.
NEXT2 offers delicacies from all over the world such as European, China, Japan, India, Mongolia, Thailand, etc. The main stations in the Café include cold seafood station with chilled prawn, rock lobster, crabs and oysters. Others stations include Japanese sushi station, noodle bar, salad bar, roasted meats station and huge dessert showcases. At the terrace there are three more sections you don’t want to miss: Indian cuisine, made to order Mongolian barbeque and grilled seafood and steaks. Their extensive buffet line and stations will make you wonder what to eat because you can not really have them all in just one visit but here we will walk you through some of the stations that we liked.
Japanese station offers fresh and sumptuous sushi and sashimi. Not to be missed is the noodle bar that serves almost every noodle soup there is in Thailand. Our recommendation to this station is just a simple yellow noodle with roasted duck (ask for the roasted duck drumstick). Don’t forget to try their pan seared foie gras at the roasted meat station. The foie gras itself is tasty but try it with a bed of rocket salad (arugala) with balsamic vinaigrette at the salad station. For meat lovers, prime rib with roasted vegetables and mash potatoes is always a safe bet.
For Indian food fans, fresh naan bread with hummus, grilled lamb, fish Tikka, tandoori chicken were some of the items that caught our interest. A combination of meats or seafood with vegetables and different sauces can be cooked to your preference at the Mongolian barbeque station.
The visit at dessert station can also be a difficult one to make up your mind but we recommend tepanyaki ice cream (ice cream with mix-in toppings), crepes suzette and green tea tiramisu.

While we were eating, Eckie the clown was kidding with the children. He is quite hilarious and the kids just enjoyed his tricks, games and activities. He shows up every Sunday and is another great addition to the liveliness ambience and good food.
