“Everything you see I owe to spaghetti.” That’s a famous quote from Italian actress Sophia Loren. So mostly, when thinking of Italian cuisine, what pops up in your mind is a spaghetti or pizza. But in fact, Italian cuisine is represented by all kinds of ingredients. And that’s what makes variety in Italian dishes as found here in La Gritta Italian restaurant.

Located on Sukumvit 19, close to Asok BTS and Sukumvit MRT station, the venue is easily and conveniently accessed even in the rush hour. The 2-level restaurant is decorated with nice ambience for your all-day dining. It offers two private dining—a reservation is a must. At dinner, what you will see is the head chef Francesco Greco coming out at the tables greeting and talking to the customers every night, making the atmosphere friendly to all visitors.

According to the chef, we learned that the different geographical features of Italy bring many different kinds of ingredients to Italian cuisine: you can find fresh seafood from the Mediterranean area while a perfect lamb is up there on the mountain side.

Chef Francesco says he cooks to reveal the taste of the main ingredients, that is: use the seasonings as little as possible, otherwise the flavor of the main ingredient is drown out. Chef Francesco offered us dishes in wide range of main ingredients beginning with three starters: “Mozzarella di bufala campana alla caprese, con capperi, acciughe e pesto,” a Traditional Caprese salad of buffalo mozzarella capers, pesto and anchovies; “Zuppa di farro alla Toscana con pancetta e patate,” Tuscanian style soup of crispy pancetta and potatoes and; “Insalata d’aragosta e tartar di pomodoro e avocado,” Lobster salad with avocado and tomato tartare. It is our favorite for the perfect mixture of fresh lobster, avocado and the seasonings.

We were then served with Risotto con taleggio e pere, a risotto with taleggio cheese and pear. For cheese lovers, you will definitely fall in love with its tense flavor of taleggio cheese. We were also offered two pastas: “Trenne ‘Rustichella d’Abruzzo’ con ragu d’agnello e olive nere,” triangular penne with lamb ragout and black olives; “Tagliatelle paglia e fieno ai carciofi e porcini con scaglie di parmigiano,” Green and white tagliatelle with artichokes, porcini mushrooms and parmesan cheese.

Followed by meat and fish courses, “Carre d’agnello al forno con salsa alle olive nere e aceto balsamico,” a roasted lamb chops with black olives and balsamic sauce. The medium cooked lamb tasted nicely with rich balsamic sauce. The fish courses include “Pagello al cartoccio con vedurine e vino bianco,” baked snapper Cartoccio with white wine and vegetables; “Il trancio di pesce spada all’acqua pazza con asparagi gratinati e cipollotti brasati,” swordfish steak in white wine sauce served with asparagus and stewed spring onions.

We ended our dinner with Tortino al cioccolato caldo con gelato al pistachio. It is a dessert of hot chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream. By the end of our dinner, we found ourselves truly enjoying a chat with chef Francesco while learning a lot about Italian cuisine. Not only the cook he cares about, but the customer also.

The venue offers you a lovely service and is recommended for all occasions. It also offers the lunch buffet in reasonable price as well as wine and food pairings. If you love Italian food, this is a place where you should not overlook!
