The restaurant from the upper level

A lot of people may already recognize Angelini restaurant and bar as the Italian cuisine venue at Shangri-la hotel with the nice location fronting the Chao Praya river. Now, the venue has been renovated. This change can surprise those who have made the visit to the restaurant a long while ago.

After the major renovation, Angelini restaurant and bar has welcomed all guests to come and enjoy their dining since December 2007. The new decoration makes a surprising change to the venue. With brighter and spacious space, Angelini has more casual ambience with the perfect dining area at almost all the seats. The 2-level restaurant offers you the seats in three zones: upper or lower level accessed by staircase, and the terrace to pool and garden area. It is where you can chill-out sipping your favorite cocktail from 50 cocktail creations offered at the venue as well as enjoying the scenic view of the Chao Praya river.

We got started with four Antipasti or appetizers: two salads; fries and foie gras. Insalata di lingua is the ox-tongue salad with rocket tagiasche olive salad, oregano and lemon pesto. Carpaccio is the second salad dish of the thin sliced raw Wagyu beef with marinated porcini, reggiano cheese and lemon olive oil. It simply becomes our favorite for the perfect slice of Wagyu beef. Followed by Bruschetta di foie gras, a pan-seared foie gras, roasted apple and toasted grain bread. The taste of foie gras goes very well with the toasted bread. Fritto misto is the tempura-like fried calamari seafood, beetroot and fennel with Italian spicy salsa.

Here it serves dish for the vegetarians as well, we were offered the rice dish called Risotto di asparagi which is a green asparagus risotto topped with asparagus, poached egg white and black truffle (a type of mushroom). This risotto is quite healthy with its non-cheesy taste.

We got our weight gained with three desserts the venue offers. Minestronde di fruitta. Minestrone is the way of Italian cookery usually in a form of thick soup with assorted vegetables, beans or pasta. But this is interesting because it is fruits minestrone of various fruits mixed and topped with glazed meringue. This dessert is served with genoa, triangular shortcake which is perfect with the sour taste from fruits and meringue’s sweetness.

Followed by Fondente al cioccolato, it is a very rich chocolate fondant served with apple compote (the cookery way of fruit stewed in syrup) and thyme ice-cream. The unsweetened cold ice-cream breaks the rich and strong taste of the warm chocolate fondant. Next is the Tiramisu with interesting decoration of Tiramisu in the glass cone on coffee bowl. The dessert has very smooth texture but tense in flavor.

The venue offers the lunch set of two and three courses of your preferred dish. At 9 pm every night, there is the live band with vibrant singer Lilibeth Antonio performing jazz and easy-listening music. The venue gives you a casual ambience from simple decoration and smiling casual-look staffs. If you are a fan of the Angelini but did not have a chance to come since the renovation, do not hesitate to make a visit once you got time!
