The actors of Doctor...Changing Heads
Gossip Gallery, in association with Art Hubs, is staging a satirical, theatrical drama entitled ‘Mor Plien Hua’ (literally translated as “Doctor . . . Changing Heads”). The play, written by Paretas Hutanggura, exposes the manner in which mass media influences a person’s life, especially in today’s capitalist society. Who is to blame? Who are the victims? ‘Doctor’, which will be performed by Bangkok Young Players, tells all. The play, directed by Kittikun Wattananupong in his directorial debut, will be performed during 6 shows on August 29 – 31 and September 5-7 at the Gossip Gallery on Sukhumvit 28.
About the Play . . .

It is a story of an average ‘Joe’ – the patient (played by Silpakhon Kongsakul) who lives in a capitalist society where mass media plays an important role in a person’s life. Knowing that he is being corrupted and consumed by the materials presented by the mass media, our hero refuses to fall victim, vows to stay away from the offered temptations, and decides to be more selective in his purchases. However, the more he rejects the media message, the unhappy he becomes. He finds that he is growing more confused, lost, and frustrated – to the point that he feels mentally ill.

After realizing that he can no longer endure the psychological illness imposed by mass media, our hero decides to see a ‘doctor’, a psychiatrist played by Patiwat Lesakul. Having heard reports of the psychiatrist’s new methods of treatment, the patient hopes his new doctor can help him overcome his sickness and restore him to his normal self.

The play also includes a guest appearance by Marit Dejkriasak, who portrays the moderator and represents the mass media who tries to feed and sell consumers anything for the sake of money and fame.

Questions that need answers . . .

Are the doctor’s new methods of treatment the road to recovery for our hero? Or, is his illness imagined? Can his sickness be easily cured by just a ‘change of heads’? Who is to blame – mass media or capitalism or both? All these questions are answered by ‘Doctor’ each night at 7:30 p.m. at the Gossip Gallery on Sukhumvit 28 for an admission fee of Baht 120.00 per person. For reservations, please call Khun Pannatat Po-Dhivejakul at (086) 600 6574 or Khun Chonticha Choochat at (081) 440 3896.
