Recently I asked my spa expert colleague the best spa venues where she would recommend. According to her, the Peninsula Spa is one among the interesting ones in terms of location and decoration. Finally I got a chance to visit the Peninsula spa by ESPA and discovered it is more than just the look that is elegant.

The wooden pathway along the canal links the spa lounge inside the hotel with the treatment area set in the Thai colonial-style building that faces the long pool and the Chao Praya river. The earth tone décor of delicate carved wood and brick walls as well as the lighting make the place elegant. The 3-level treatment area occupies 12 standard rooms; 2 convertible for multi treatments; 2 Private Spa suites; and 2 River Private Spa suites. Before or after the treatment, guests are welcome to enjoy the facilities provided at the relaxation rooms separated for men and women where it equips with beds, steam shower, Jacuzzi, as well as the pool front terrace.

Our team of two got a chance to visit the venue. Each of us had our treatment in Private Spa suites which is as large as a hotel room suite. Each suite occupies dressing area, toilet, two electronic massage beds, Thai massage area, steam shower and Jacuzzi which we're offered a private 30-minute using them in our own privacy. The steam shower is very impressive and showering among the steam gives a new experience and refreshing sense after the shower.

After the relaxing 30-minute with Jacuzzi and steam shower, our therapists who were Khun Nan and Khun Deh came in and greeted us. We selected the very unique signature treatment called "Peninsula Ceremonies: Time." It is a 1 hour 50 min body treatment analyzed and programmed by the therapist to suit guests in a certain condition at the particular moment. While receiving the foot baht, it was a time for consultation. Questions were such as: do we have any concern; do we have any muscle tension; or what will we be doing after the treatment. They even asked if we drink for they can analyze to provide the right treatment to us at that time.

After the consultation, Chakra Balancing with the Volcanic Stone was picked for both of us. The treatment started from body scrub, facial cleansing then the volcanic stone treatment. Each step needs the therapists’ idea in choosing the products. They picked two that are appropriate for each treatment from the large collection of all and had us select the one we prefer.

The volcanic stone treatment includes the use of aromatherapy oil with the Ayurvedic herbal concentrate that combine with the heat and pressure to release tension which can help rebalance and re-energize the body.

The process was quite complicated. The volcanic stone massage started from the front part foot and leg massage when we had to lay our backs on the hot stone, then up to hand, arm, shoulder and neck massage with stones which was put under the back shoulder afterwards.

Then we received the treatment at the back part of body: from foot and leg where the hot volcanic stones were pressed along the tendons then put them over the foot. Then back massage which used a harder pressure and followed by arm massage with the stones put on both hands and we ended the treatment with the nice scalp massage.

I'm not a person who is into or used to massage and this is the first time trying the volcanic stone treatment. But after the treatment by Khun Deh and Khun Nan, we agree that it is simply impressive because it eased away all the body tension that the following day we got up feeling physically relaxed and comfortable.

It's rare to find a spa venue where it provides equipped facilities for guests' private relaxation before or after the treatment. It is also hard to find a skilled therapist who can analyze and design an appropriate treatment for guests. Having all these, the Peninsula spa becomes an extraordinary spa among its kind!
