On a sunny day afternoon, we took a little drive to “Baan Khanitha”. It took about 30 minutes from our office on Sukhumvit 85. The Restaurant is a well known Thai restaurant among foreigners living in Thailand. It is located on south Sathorn Soi 69 in the busy business area of Bangkok between tall skyscrapers. This is their new branch just opened about a year ago. It is converted and renovated from an Thai house which was previously an Italian restaurant and before it was a Shinawat Thai silk shop. Inside, it is decorated with teak wooden furniture with rows of painting above the large windows. There is also an out door coutyard dinning area with water drifting down the sloped glass roof.
Baan Khanitha serves fine original Thai cuisine. We were recommended 4 menus: The first one is “Yam Som O” consisting of pomelo, shrimps and chicken and many herbs and spices. Pomelo is well selected, not too sweet, and not too sour. Next one is “Hoy Shell Phad Prig Thai Dum” more of a chinese dish and a very tastety one. Scallops are fresh and cooked right making it sweet and pleasing to the mouth. This is the one dish you should never miss out if you are here “Plah Khung Lai Sua”. Having three big sized of tiger prawns cooked just right top with a unique spicy herbs salad. The pawn was not over cooked and very moist espaicially the head part where there is a lot of fatty juices. The herbs is what make this dish special, no words can discribe this, you have to try it to know it. For dessert we had “Khao Neao Mamung with ice cream kati”. Ripe mango with a bit of sour taste and sticky rice go together very well with the ice cream.
