The Peninsula Bangkok has always been on our itinerary of places to stay. This year was a good opportunity to visit and spend a weekend after their 10th anniversary. We made advance booking and inform the time we were going to arrive. Upon our arrival the team of friendly staffs gave us a warm welcome by greeting us by the name at the car drop off. Once inside we were presented with a hand made scented flower bracelet for each of us. The check in was very efficient, actually it was not a normal check in, where you had to wait at the counter. The reception staff took us right away to our suite and just collected our signature. At the Grand Deluxe Suite, they prepared a beautiful set of chocolates and sweets with 2 carafes of hand squeezed orange juice that was waiting for us. We were very impressed with the welcome and the suite.
The suite is huge with spectacular views of the Chaopraya and Bangkok. Being on the Thonburi side, the Peninsula provides a view overlooking the Chaopraya river to the Bangkok side. The Grand Deluxe Suite is a one bed room suite which include a Large living room with 3 floor to ceiling windows. Connected to the living room is a small toilet that has a window looking out to the river. A hall way connects the bed room, large bath room, and walk-in closet. The spacious bed room has a cornered window with a unique designer orange reading lamp. Bed is comfy. Walk-in closet has a small secret compartment that connects to the hall way, it is served as a personal mail box and shoe cleaning service pick up. The bath room comes with enclosed toilet room, separated shower, 2 water basin, and an over-sized bath tub. At the bath tub there is a small TV operated by a wall mount remote control. The interior is very well a appointed, with earth tone color furnishing and finishing. There are centralized remote control in every room which controls the Air-con, TV, radio, lighting, and curtains. The curtains have 2 layers, a transparent and an opaque that are operated with buttons open and close. To close half way just press the button and wait for it, press again to stop. Not only it is centrally controlled, it could be controlled at each window with only a press of a button. The lighting can also be customized with the light mood button, the lighting of the whole room changes from bright to medium to low. Air conditioning is noise free, if it wasn't for the hot weather outside we wouldn't have noticed it was on. The TV is a bit dated it's not LCD or plasma, but there are many premium cable channels and the sound system is nice. There is a list of DVD movies you can borrow from the business center. Just call the business center, it will be delivered to you in a couple of minutes with no extra charge and it is a 24hr service.

From it's appearances the Peninsula is a hi-rise city hotel, but actually once inside, spending a couple of nights here, it felt more like a resort. It is very peaceful and relaxed. The 3 tier pool is just spectacular. The kids really enjoyed diving through under the foot bridge, and going over the water falls. The Salas are wonderful to lay back and see the busy river outside and enjoy the beautiful pool and tropical garden at the same time. The service was impeccable, the pool attendants brought us ice water and sometimes complimentary mini ice cream cones. The pool opens late till 11 pm. One night we had an after dinner swim, the large pool becomes our very own private pool. Another attraction by itself is the breakfast, from the wonderful riverside out door seating to the extensive buffet.

Among the many five star hotels in Bangkok, the Peninsula is considered to be one of the top; for it's service, and location. If you are looking to be spoiled, there are only a few choices.
