Thailand has had and have many Le Meridiens, for example the now Intercontinental Bangkok use to be a Le Meridien, The Plaza Athenee is now a Le Meridien. There is also one in Phuket, Khao Lak, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and more will open in years to come. Now there is a new one in Bangkok just opened in April 2009. Located on Surawong Road in the Silom business district, near Patpong. What this mean is there are not much available space to develope in such a populated area which, would be interesting to see how a new 5 star hotel would be like.

View from the room

Upon arriving at the drop off, we were greeted by a nice looking young man, which he offered to carry all our bags. The lobby is quite attractive with 3.5 story high ceiling and floor to ceiling glass wall. The floor is finished with a dark stone tile with a rare pattern. At the silvery free form counter in the lobby, the check in was efficient. The receptionist was informative welcoming and attractive. What we've notice is most people working here classy and attractive even the maid. All this and an interesting wood fragrant(LM01) is what will be experienced at the lobby.
On the 22th floor we were guide to our rooms. We had connecting rooms one Vista room for the kids and a Circular room at 36 square meters. If you're curious, Vista is a standard room type and Circular is like a deluxe type with a giant circular bed, other then that they are pretty much the same. Yes round circular beds, like what you have in short time motels. Being at just a short walk to the world famous red light district Patpong and all adult night life entertianment one can imagine and with circular beds, does give a sign of what this place could be. Actually it is a lot more classy than those places. You can see it in the design and fine details the room offers. Although the rooms are compact, it is very well thought out with high quality materials and accessories. For instance a sharp Sony LCD tv, an adjustable shower head with a rectangular rain shower system, a French press coffee maker. One thing they don't have is an ipod sound system which they indicated to have, in the website. If you expecting normal painting decoration, it is what this place is not, just simple decor and nicely light space. The upside down L shape wall-ceiling sunken above the bed is a neat idea to provide indirect lighting with a printed poem of Sunthornphu, the famous thai poet at the corner.

The Lobby

The pool is on the fifth floor of the same building facing the east. You can get a morning sun here but in the afternoon it goes completely under shade by the higher building. Good for kon thai who doesn't want to get tanned. Poolside benches and Gazebo cushioned mattress are provided with chilled water and face spray when seated. Tho pool size is OK if not too crowded, if crowded it could be like a public pool on a weekend. Another thing I've notice is the people at the pool, most of them are young and attractive. Some come in couples, some come in groups, two girls and a guy, or all girls, etc. Is it a coincident that during the time I was there, there are a lot of attractive people staying here also, or does this place only attracts young and attractive people?
