Pullman a new Hotel chain in the Asian region, it has been launched under the Accor group of hotels in 2007. There are now quite a few around the world mostly in Europe, France especially. Now in Thailand there are 2; The Pullman Khon Kaen Raja Orchid formerly known as Sofitel Khon Kaen Raja Orchid and the more familiar one, Pullman Bangkok King Power. With it's clean lines, white aluminium carbon panels, clear glass, all together composed with a sense of space and proportion creating something wonderful. Having a masters degree in architecture I can truly say it is an architectural master piece. Design by A49, one of the most renown architectural firm in Thailand. This is part of the reason that made us make a reservation to stay here for the weekend.

Located at soi Langnam near the Victory monument and in the same compound of the King Power Duty free Shops. After we unloaded our bags from the valet, we were escorted to the 20th floor, the executive lounge. This is where all executive class rooms and suites check-in instead of the normal lobby check-in downstairs. We were seated on sofas looking at the city view, while being served complimentary drinks of our choice. The kids liked it because right by our seats there is a computerized massage chair that they really got a kick out off. The privilege of staying in an executive room apart from better rooms are you get to use the executive lounge which serves breakfast, drinks throughout the day, a happy hour cocktails with a wide array of snacks in the evening, 24 hour wireless internet, late check out until 3pm and the list goes on with no extra charge.

Personalized welcome

After the check-in, the concierge was waiting in front of our room with our bags. The room was spacious with a living room, king size bed room, bathroom that has a large  bath tube and a separated shower with rain shower system. It is also very well appointed with 2 flat screen TVs, an espresso machine with complimentary coffees, an IPod speaker/charger and all the usuals. After being in the room for 10 minutes the perfectly neat room became a mess with the hands of my 2 very energetic kids. The kids enjoyed the room so much we left them in the room to have a massage at Le Spa. Returning to the room the mess was still there, but it couldn't have gotten any worst. Maybe it's time to make a mess somewhere else, we headed to the executive lounge for the evening happy hour. They were serving a mini buffet with good quality finger food, canapés, cheese, cakes and other desserts with as much drinks as you like cocktails, martini, wine etc. This could almost be dinner.

At the the 4th floor, a pool on a roof top that is really big which is divided into 3 parts; The kids pools, a soaking pool with jacuzzi, the swimming pool which has an infinity edge that looks out to the courtyard garden on the ground floor. It is quite nice. Being a city hotel usually the pool always get shaded either in the morning or the afternoon, but for this one the orientation is very well thought out, it was sunny all day. Surprisingly enough, we were there in early September which is rainy season, we did not get any rain and the sky was clear with some clouds. The kids had a good time and we enjoyed the romantic time change from day till night.

Bringing kids for a weekend get away can be a trip disaster, but with the right plan and good negotiation with the kids, it could turn out right. We ordered the kids room service of their choice. After they got their meals we left them in the suite to enjoy their dinner and watch Thai soap opera. We head to the Wine Pub on 2nd floor next to Deja vu. After the nice dinner at the Wine Pub, we return to the suite. The kids was neatly asleep. The night was still young, another drink wouldn't hurt. Glen bar was next on out list. At the bar, dark toned, very high ceiling with comfy cushioned sofa and the tunes from Lumduan a local band with Ooh the attractive singer did create a positive impression. We ended the night with the spectacular view of victory monument from our window.

The next day,  breakfast at Cuisine unplugged which had a wide array of choices eg. sushi, dim sum and all the usual Asian and western items serve in five star hotels. After the large breakfast, we spent time at the lovely garden courtyard. There is a wonderful carp fish pond. The care taker provided us with food to feed the fishes.  They were very colorful and it was enjoyable to see them swim by so close.  We checked-out and brought good memories of the nice weekend we had and left a mess we made behind at the suite in Pullman.
