The Panorama is the new restaurant and bar in Bangkok which could be the new talk of the town. Located on the 23rd floor of the Pan pacific hotel. Originally a Japanese hotel chain, which recently changed hand to a Singaporean. The building is located on Rama 4 Road next to Robinsons Silom, the hotel itself situated from the 20th- 32th floor of the Ramaland office tower. There are many Pan Pacific through out the Asian region. In Thailand there is only one.

As we exited the elevator on the 23rd floor a sense of class was obvious, the newly renovated lobby+dinning space had a major face lifted. The large atrium with glass elevators was nicely lit and decorated. We walk through the lobby to the reception of the Panorama. The receptionist welcomed and guided us to our reserved table. There are two types of seating spaces, the main dinning space in the atrium, and the semi outdoor dinning space with a bar. The main dining area has two open kitchens, a coffee and cheese bar decorated with wood, mirror, ceramic tiles, leather and stainless steel. A lot of combinations which worked out because of the controled color tone of Oak red. It does feel like an old fashion diner but the shining stainless steel, modern art pieces, over sized lamps and two storeys wine show case brought us back to present. The semi outdoor space is mostly wood, glass with a spectacular view. The glass windows usually closed, can be fully open to the view that looks out to Rama 4 road and see the sports club, Chulalongkorn University, and the Siam shopping center area. The space is air conditioned and there is a smoking area. It also connected to the cigar lounge.

(Terrine of foie gras with marinated fig, amaretto jelly and toasted lavender brioche)

(Brittany Langoustine cooked a la plancha served on a flan of green peas, with dried Pancetta and lemon foam)

(Pan fried Atlantic cod with a ragout of forest mushrooms, truffle potato chips, caper berries and smoked butter)

(Chef’s cut of Australian Angus beef, glazed Pecorino gnocchi’s, herb crusted vine tomato and tarragon sabayon)

The executive chef Steve Van Remoortel greeted us at the table and recommended the menu. He recommended a set menu call "Panorama Pure" which contains a variety of ingredients from many parts of the world. It started with amuse busch a pumpkin Jelly served on a large plate. The “Terrine of foie gras with marinated fig, amaretto jelly and toasted lavender brioche”, the flavourful terrine went well with the rare amaretto jelly. For appetizers, there were two choices the Terrine or the “Brittany Langoustine cooked a la plancha served on a flan of green peas, with dried Pancetta and lemon foam”,usually you have to choose one but in our case we tried both. The Langoustine is miniature lobster from the cold waters of the United kingdom, it has a very strong fishy scent. The meat is nice but very small portion. While the food are being served we notice a live band playing catchy Jazz tunes. The main was “Pan fried Atlantic cod with a ragout of forest mushrooms, truffle potato chips, caper berries and smoked butter”, the cod was perfectly cooked went well with the creamy sauce and chewy mushrooms. The next main was “Chef’s cut of Australian Angus beef, glazed Pecorino gnocchi’s, herb crusted vine tomato and tarragon sabayon”, the beef was very tender and juicy really good for the last main.

(Sous Chef, Jeremy)

While waiting for our desserts the GM Michal Zitek came to greet the guest of the restaurant, we had a chance to say hello. A selection of Cheese arrived which came with 7 types of cheese with preserved fruits. Some of the cheese were very pungent. The variety was good, it was really good with the wine. The dessert came on a large plate with 6 varieties mango creations. Some are traditional some are more creative. If you're into French flare cooking with ingredients from around the world and reasonable priced wines, this is one place for that. What's more, is the great ambiance, nice view, with a selection of open air or controlled air dinning experience.
