MBK center is well known for it's one stop shopping venue where you can find everything needed at a bargain. That's why it's so lively and crowded. But, did you know there is a fine dining Italian restaurant on the top of this building? Loop is located on the 8th floor, a part of Pratumwan Princes hotel which occupies the same building as the MBK. The restaurant offers indoor and outdoor seating right by the hotel pool. We were there one evening to see how the food was and if it was worth visiting.

Loop offers both formal and casual atmosphere. The inside dinning space is a more formal space. The large glass window has nice view of the outside. The outside dinning space is very casual and relaxed which is what we preferred that day. Our table was facing the pool, the roof garden and a little city view. The clientèle here is a mixture of hotel guest and regular local and expat. The spacious wooden deck with high ceiling is quite charming in the evening. After being seated we ordered items from the menu and some cocktails. The menu was very extensive with many varieties of items to choose from.

While having the cocktails and enjoying the ambiance, the food started coming to our table. Our first dish was a Papiyong mushroom saladit was nice tangy and fresh. The combination of mushrooms oranges and Japanese onion was unique and an interesting mixture.

At the same time we had a more traditional dish the Rocket salad with crispy bacon and shaved parmesan cheese on balsamic dressing which was also a good starter.

Not so far, there were some nice fire works which we got to enjoy. We did not wait at all for the mains, Stefano Zaninelli the head chef was really organised in getting the dishes out and it came all at the same time. The pasta dish we ordered was Home made artichoke ravioli with ricotta cheese, cooked with spicy Italian sausage and pine nuts, a nice light tasty dish. The sausage and pine nuts made it special.

The Wrapped snow fish was cooked to perfection with spinach, raisin on broccoli sautéed with caviar thyme sauce wrapped with crispy Parma ham. The sweet moist juicy tender fish is wrap with crispy bacon is one dish not to miss.

The chef's own recommendation, Tuna tagliata crusted with black pepper and rosemary with shrimps lemon risotto is another dish we agreed with the chef and like to recommend. The raw tuna was wrap with a thick layer of herbs slightly seared accompanied by cheese risotto a perfect dish. The slow braised Braised lamb shank with red wine and white polenta was really tender but needed more seasoning.

The Australian grilled beef rib eye steak; a 150 days grain fed beef with grilled zucchini and carrots on gorgonzola walnut sauce is cooked just right and offers a satisfying taste that all beef steaks should be like. Just by tasting it we could tell it is highly marbleize, the price tag is a little high compared to other items on the menu but it was well worth it.

No good meal should end without a dessert. Tiramisu would be the most popular Italian dessert in Bangkok. The one offered here is one of the good ones, Creamy and coffeelicious.

Another was the "Warm berries sabayon with lemon mousse" not a familiar dessert, it looked like a creambule but more liquidly and light, the creamy taste went well with the berrys hidden underneath.

This comes to the conclusion that this venue is definitely worth visiting for it's fine ambiance and good quality dishes at an affordable price. This would be one of the place I'd come back when in the neighborhood and craving for a perfect Italian meal.
