Bawarchi, is the Hindi word for cook or chef. The restaurant is located on basement level of the President Tower (InterContinental) on Ploenchit Road, Chidlom. The chain of Bawarchi(Chidlom, Sukhumvit soi11, Sukhumvit soi 3, 2 at Suanlum Night Bazaar, and Gurgaon, India) restaurants has now become a well recognized brand amongst tourist who crave for Indian food especially those from India. After we were welcomed by the assistant General manager khun Satrajit Rakshit, he offered us a fruity watermelon-juice for starters. Some tables are fitted with Indian style table-cloth while the dining area is decorated with colorful Indian art work. You really get an Arabic feeling when entering the restaurant, and because of the lounge seats at the dining tables, there's a relaxed mood in the atmosphere.

While enjoyning the sounds of live Indian style music, which really projected the mood of dining in an Indian atmosphere, our food started to arrive. The task of selecting dishes from an Indian menu is often a challenged as the choices of tempting dishes are so vast. They offer at least 14 starters and about 10 salad and soup selections, and the menu includes about 20 BBQ dishes and at least 40 choices of curry, of which 16 are vegetarian selections. The good thing is, in comparison to many other Indian restaurants, Bawarchi doesn't adapt their dishes too much to Western customers, so that they too can experience the real taste of authentical Indian herbs and spices. Still luckily for me, they do always ask their customers if they want their dishes mild, medium or spicy. We had ours mild to medium.

Our dining event started with ''Samosa'', a rich pastry shell or dumpling with a savory filling of spiced potatoes, Indian curry, cheese, minced meat, onions and peas. The potatoes were spiced, but enough to handle. I would really recommend this dish, as it is a filling yet good taste of what to expect next.

I also couldn't resist the ''Tandoori Chicken'', our next dish. The red intense colour of the chicken immediately caught the eye, and the meat was so unbelievably moist. This was definately some quality chicken. Now it was main course time, from which we started with three Indian curries. I especially loved the ''Murg Malaiwala'' (butter chicken), a curry made of chicken, chili, milk, cream and peppercorns. It had a really nice rich taste. ''Rogan Josh'' (Lamb Curry) includes lamb, oil, yoghurt, a mixture of spices like paprika for its red color and tomatoes and ''Dal Makhani'' is made out of lentil, kidney beans, chilli powder, onion, tomatoes and cream.

We had these curries together with the help of some ''Saffron Rice'' and ''Garlic Naans'', "Lachedar Parantha". Although there was a lot to eat, and it was only Naans and Curries, I didn't get tired of the taste. A dangerous dish, because you just keep eating.

For dessert, we got served Mango Kulfi, as they call it Indian icecream. Though it looked a lot like icecream, It's actually mashed mango, sweetened condensed milk, milk powder, sugar, Cardamom powder and saffron, which is boiled and then freezed. It's very distinguished, particular taste reminded both me and my friend of something we had when being a toddler, maybe that's why I liked it so much. I never had that taste again till I got Mango Kulfi, so I really enjoyded this dessert.

After finishing the delicious Mango Kulfi, we were offered Indian milk tea which was not on the menu. Never had that either, but it tasted really 'milky' and therefore quite filling too. That's because in Indian tea, there's often more milk used than in regular tea. Full bodied and strong, and contains spices too. Not my favorite tea but just something I'm glad I have tried once.

The Indian cuisine has something for everybody, especially because you can spice it however you like and because It's variety of dishes. Although not everyone loves it, you can't say you really don't like it. Me and my friend  both were obviously enjoying it. When I'm back in Holland, I will definately search up some good Indian restaurants, hoping they will please me the same way Bawarchi did.
