During the end of February, I had a chance to attend the PB Valley grape harvest. This is the time when most of the vineyards have their harvest and organised trips to go and pick the grapes. The grapes are picked to become wine in the next year (or more).

Some vineyards even save the grapes you picked and have it ready as wine for you next year, and of-course wine tasting which in includes the new wines that are just out and the older ones. We also tried the food at PB valley's restaurant called "The Great Hornbill Grill".

PB Valley Khaoyai Winery is located in the wine region of Thailand near Khaoyai National park. There are hills surrounding this area providing nice scenery all around. In the day time it can be very hot, but during the night time the weather is very pleasant. It gets cooler with nice breezes that makes it very different from Bangkok. Apart from the restaurant there is vineyard and winery tour that shows you the whole process of making wine and lets you visit all the wine making facility. There are also shops to buy products wine, grape juice, and many other product from PB Valley.

The Great Hornbill Grill is on a little hill over looking a lake and beyond endless rows of grape vines. It has a rustic country side feel. Most of the material are untreated wood. Nice outdoor seating under large trees. The food are a mix of western and Thai. The western food in my opinion stands out.

We tried many dishes, starting with a Cesar salad that has a sunny side up fried egg on top which looks and taste really good. Smoked Duck Breast Salad with Fresh Pear, the smoked duck is really tasty and tender it went very well with the soft and juicy pear. If I come here next time I would order this again.

For mains we had Squid Ink Spaghetti with Creamy Crab & King Prawn Sauce. It was a treat, the creamy sauce was filled with sweet crab meat. Thinking about it, makes me hungry. Next was a rare dish Pan Fried Whole Royal Project Rainbow Trout with Roasted Almond Butter Sauce. The fresh water fish has a lot of juicy fat in the meat, very mouth watering. The last but not least is Deep Fried German Pork Knuckle Served with Sauerkraut, Gravy and Mashed Potatoes. I know, it was bad for me, calorie wise but I couldn't resist. The pork knuckle was serve in pieces and put together to form a whole pork knuckle so it was very easy to eat and nicely presented. I was crispy on the outside and juicy inside the way it should be.

For dessert a home made grape sherbet and Charcoal ice cream.
