Hong Kong is so close to Bangkok. And it is one of the top food capitols of the world. This update we bring you to one of the most acclaimed restaurants in Hong Kong "Felix".

After entering the lobby area of the Peninsula Hong Kong, a very familiar ambiance hit me. It reminds me of the Bangkok Peninsula. It is not that it has similar design or decorations. It is totally different, Hong Kong is more classical, Bangkok is more modern. But both venues maintain a similiar character mostly in the lighting and the color tone.

We were running late for our diner reservations at Felix. The very helpful staff guided us to a lift lobby that has elevators that specifically transport us from the ground floor to Felix on the 28th. Coming out of the elevator we sense a really good vibe from the background noise in the dinning space. It was a Friday at 8.30pm the place was almost full. The dining space was exciting, design by Philippe Starck 16 year ago, but it looked really up to date or even a bit into the future.

The symmetrical rectagular dining area has double ceiling hight and 2 large floor to ceiling windows on both sides. One side provides outstanding view of the Hong Kong harbor. The other window side has a view that looks over the Tsim Sha Tsui shopping district. There is a long table at the very end that stretches from one side of the window to the other and partly it serves as a cocktail bar. The table is lit like a stage for good looking people to sit and become part of the view. There are balconies on both window sides on the mezzanine level for drinks and cocktails. The private tables are more discreet with dimer lighting which is where we where seated by the window.

We tried the Felix Experience which is the tasting menu that comes with matching wines at half portions. The menu changes every couple of weeks. There were 3 starters, a choice of main, and desert. It started with Soy marinated Pigeon, galangal, watercress, and sesame oil. It is an interesting marriage of French with a bit of Asian domination.

Next was Lobster and fennel soup with orange dust and sherry cream. The creamy soup was very tasty and gets more creamy when the sherry cream mixes with the soup.

Another interesting appetizer is the white asparagus, uni, yuzu. The asparagus is cooked to perfections with a hint of zest from the yuzu. The uni comes with the sweet taste of the sea makes it more appealing. So far the wine pairing play a major part in the whole experience with a variety of wines from the famous wine regions of the world.

For the mains we had a choice of 2, luckily I came with my date. So we agreed to try one of each and share. The slow roasted New Zealand ocean trout was gorgeous hidden under the juicy fish was sweet peas and the morel mushroom vinaigrette. The morel was very pungent and had chewy texture which complimented the fish. The 12 hour braised lamb shanks, asian pear, portabella mushrooms and thyme foam was so tender. It disappeared in no time. For dessert; Double chocolate brownie, espresso ice cream and custard sauce. It does taste as good as it looks.

The experience was very enjoyable even-though that day was very foggy we did not see much of harbor view. The whimsical space provided a place for a good night out. Don't for get to check out the mens room. I was told many woman went to the mens room both intentionally and unintentionally to see the view from the urinal. I saw one woman walked in right before me.

coned shaped urinal providing birds eye view of Hong Kong

All the chair back rest have photos of long time staff that worked at the Peninsula to honor them.

The Felix Experience: HK$ 1,288 with 5 glasses of wine, HK$788 without wine
