For a short weekend, to avoid traffic and driving too long, we decided to spend our weekend at the Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit.  It is located on Sukhumvit road near Asoke junction. The location is at the very center of Bangkok. To make it even more accessible there is a bridge from the lobby that connects to the Asoke BTS station. So getting to Emporium or Central World takes less than 10 minutes.

Nearby in walking distance is the Robinson department store which is on the other side of Sukhumvit road. At night along the sidewalks of Shukumvit from the Sheraton to soi Nana are street shops selling anything from food, luggage, clothing, souvenirs to pirated DVDs. Many restaurants and clubs are in the area.

Sheraton Grande Sukhumvit is categorized under the Luxury Collection which is a higher category than the Sheraton. It became a Luxury Collection after extensive renovation. I guess they kept the Sheraton name because it was already well known. Both brands are in the Starwood Group of Hotels and Resorts.

The rooms we got were two connecting Deluxe rooms. Both rooms being at the end of the hall way are connected by occupying part of the hall way space which can be locked by a large pair of doors. It makes it a bit like a suite. The deluxe rooms were very spacious with generous amount of space for a centralized city hotel. Even for a resort it is considered large. In the room is a walking closet, a large bath with over-sized bath tub and separated shower. The decor is the American classic style wall to wall carpet, wood furnishing. For some, the styling could be a bit dated but it is very well maintained. With high quality craftsmanship and material finishes it could be timeless. The views from the rooms are OK, from the 17th floor we got a nice view of Benja Kitti park and its surrounding. Higher floors would provide better views.

On the 7th floor, the pool is an oasis surrounded by luscious tropical trees. The pool shape is multi angle form with many grooves, corners and pits. This provides many personal spaces for the guest. Another nice feature here is the hot outdoor Jacuzzi. Luckily it was not raining, so it was a nice city getaway for the whole afternoon.

After a good night rest on the signature Luxury Collection bed, the day started really slow with a light breakfast. The whole family is anticipating for the big feast brunch the “Sunday Jazzy Brunch with Gourmet Cuisine, Free Flow Drinks including wines, and a Jazz Band”.
