Anantara Resort and Spa Hua Hin; the secret garden

Address:43/1 Phetkasem Beach Road Hua Hin 77110 Thailand Tel: +66 (0) 3252 0250 Text/photo: Vasin Srivarathanabul

There is a unique character in all Anantara resorts. The one in Hua Hin is no exception.  The seaside resort is just a few kilometers away from Hua Hin downtown. Once inside it felt like I was far away and very isolated from the city. The luscious tropical garden and the high walls provided a barrier to the outside world.

We arrive in the evening. From Petchkasem road a left turn sets us to the resort. The drive way turns dark from the shadows of the dense and mature trees. It seems like a jungle. High pastel peach walls intermingle with the trees reminds me of the movie Jurassic park.

After the check-in at the lobby the receptionist guided us through the garden and swimming pool to our room a deluxe sea view. The room is well equipped with 32 inch LCD tv, mini bar and complimentary coffee and tea. The room we got was very close to the sea. It could probably be called sea access. Being on the ground floor the only thing between the you and the sea is a double glass door, the terrace and a few steps through the garden is the beach.

The breakfast offered here is pretty good.  There are wide varieties to choose from, all the usual western items and some Asian and Thai at good quality, a salad bar, a cereal station, a cheese station and a wide selection of bread. Out of the norm is the rocket at the salad bar, a homemade cured ham and fresh brewed coffee of your liking. It’s always nice to have a nice hot latte served on a glass cup. Seeing layers of milk coffee and milk foam is always a joy.

The resort is laid out with many walk ways. Along the walk ways we’ve notice there were many plants and flowers. It was very tempting to explore this beautiful garden.  All the buildings are small 2 stories low rise in between each building are varieties of small trees, large trees, plants, flowers, sculptures, bridges, lagoons etc.

Even though it was a Saturday and the resort was very much occupied, we did not see much people in the garden. Making our exploration more adventurists, every new thing we see, like the gazebo was like a discovery. The climax of our quest was an beautiful oval shaped pool, which was hidden deep in the garden. It was a different pool to the one near our room. This gorgeous pool is set beside a large lotus pond.  It’s a wonderful view looking at pond through the pool. Our discovery paid off with a good time playing in the pool.
