Steaks in Bangkok

When we talk about steaks if not specified it usually means meat from a cow. Like wine there are so many types, cuts, and regions, it could get complex. That is what makes it so interesting.  It is the only farm animal to have so many grades. The price ranges are from affordable to ridiculously high. Some cows are grain fed, beer fed, messaged and entertained with classical music to get its meat to a certain quality. It is almost addictive for people who like them.

Imports
The steaks in Bangkok are from local and many parts of the world. Some local Thai beef have good quality but not quite up to standard for fine dining restaurants. Beefs for steaks are mostly imported from Australia, United State, Argentina and Japan. The US and Japanese beef would be pricier. Japanese beef stands out with their Kobe and Matsusaka that has very high marble score. The Australian and Argentinean beef are at good value for its quality. Usually Australian wagyu is preferred for its’ good standard high quality beef.

Beef cuts
There are so many different beef cuts it will not be possible to name all. Most of the steak houses will offer all of the popular cuts whether you like fat or lean beef. For leaner cut tenderloin or fillet mignon are the most tender and most expensive part of the beef. More fat is more taste, Sirloin or the New York has a nice strip of crispy fat along the side. Rib eye has a lot of marbling in the meat. For the best of both worlds the t-bone or the bigger porter house offers one side a fatty loin beef the other a leaner tenderloin beef. When cuts have been selected each restaurant will have its own preferences on how to cook them usually it is grilled to get the smoky aroma than roast or pan fried. Some recipe with tougher beef cuts like the cheek requires longer time to cook. If it is important for you how it is cooked, you have to ask the waitress because some restaurants do not indicate the methods of cooking.
Even though many Thais don’t eat beef there are many places that specialize and offer high quality steaks
Featured steak houses
When thinking about steaks in Bangkok, one of the first places a Bangkok veteran would think of is the New York steakhouse at the JW Marriott. It established its’ reputation since it opened 10 years ago. We were there to check out how it has matured.  Read More....
Not many steak houses come with a view like Prime, located on at the Millennium Hilton.  At the lobby, we took a glass elevator to the 3rd floor. The walk way leads to 2 very interesting outlets; Maya a unique Thai restaurant with a very interesting Thai contemporary dance and Prime; the ultra chic steak house.  Read More.....

RR&B is short for Rib Room and Bar, located at the Landmark Bangkok near Nana BTS station. It is a fine dining restaurant that specializes in steaks. Apart from the steaks, I like being on high floors and see another perspective of this wonderful city. Being in the heart of Bangkok on the 31st floor can provide a good opportunity to do that. It was an easy decision to come here.  Read More....
