The World Gourmet Festival (WGF) is probably the most popular and the biggest gastronomic event held in Bangkok. This year 8 chefs were invited. I was lucky enough to be there and witness this event everyday as the photographer for the whole event.

The 8 day culinary event comprises of lunches, afternoon teas, wine tasting, big wine dinners and a Sunday brunch.
The elegant lobby at the Four Seasons becomes the venue for the WGF lunch. During the lunch there were cooking demonstrations from the guest chefs.  The chefs make their signature dish in front of the hotel guest. Every guest gets to try that signature dish including many others at the buffet stations from around the world. Wines are also included in the buffet for a very reasonable price.

The afternoon tea was a rare concept where tea is served with matching canapés created only for this event. Each tea is presented differently according to that type of tea. Guest had the opportunity to try a variety of sweets and pastries including the spectacular smoke tiramisu created by Four Seasons pastry chef Chef Stephane Calvet.

The dinners were the main event. Eight renowned chefs from around the world prepared and cooked five course dinners with matching wines from around the world. Each dinner is organized at one of the 4 world themed restaurant at the Four Seasons.

The dishes from each chef looked sensational. I tried many of the dishes they tasted even better than how they looked.

I did try the whole dinner by David Lee. He is the third generation chef in his family, an Asian born from England with a restaurant in Canada.  His dishes looked very playful. For example for Amuse –bouche he served a flat thin crispy chicken skin with a chicken cartilage laid on two round rocks. Another dish that will just scare kids and probably some adults is a squab leg with the foot and claw still intact. The wines are also very special. Each dinner comes with at least 5 wines. By talking to one of the sommelier his told me that one particular bottle that was served in the dinner cost 18,000 baht.

To end the culinary event the famous Four Seasons Sunday brunch has got even better. Apart from the regular items that is offered in the brunch. Guest got to try the signature dishes of each chef that was from the dinners.

This year was another successful year. Many guest and prominent people joined the event and had a good time. Plus parts of the proceeds go to charity. I really enjoyed witnessing the World Gourmet Festival even though taking photographs for the event was an exhausting job but it was also fun and a great experience.
