Exquisite Chinese Afternoon Tea Indulgences Descend on Mei Jiang’s Chefs’ Table

| October 28, 2013
Afternoons of sensual indulgence and stimulation are unfolding at The Peninsula Bangkok’s much-awarded Mei Jiang Cantonese fine dining restaurant with the advent of a new Chefs’ Table Chinese Afternoon Tea experience offered from now to 31 December 2013.Master Chef Jackie Ho and his passionate team explore, and consistently perfect, the Middle Kingdom’s delectable sweet and savoury bakery tradition and brew the most delicate buds from premium tea varieties. Moreover, they personally present a medley of these distinguished delicacies to adventurous guests with front-row seats to the adjoining kitchen, and a wide-angle view on all the creative culinary activity.Over a dozen freshly prepared items grace the mouth-watering menu, including sweet and savoury dim sum selections, steamed buns and, of course, homemade scones, re-oriented with an irresistible Cantonese twist.

Sweet treats range from Mango pudding, Deep-fried sesame dumpling, Walnut cookie, Red bean “8” macaroon, Chinese pear with brown sugar soft cake, Glutinous rice dumplings filled with sesame paste, not to mention Lotus seed paste buns.

Contrasting savouries include: Barbequed pork pastry puffs, Seared Chinese turnip pudding with XO sauce, complemented by Ha Gau and Siu Mai.

Chinese Mandarin scones, enhanced with wolfberry-strawberry jam, lychee honey and the hotel’s unique clotted cream complete the divine teatime picture.

Lashings of hot or cold Chinese teas bring both their thirst-quenching properties and subtle aromas to the party. Between bites, guests are invited in to visit the kitchen for close encounters with the ongoing, expert preparations. The utilitarian, stainless steel chefs’ table seats six guests and the ambience of the room is in keeping with the kitchen, bringing added edge to the experience. Nevertheless, lustrous chinaware, silverware, lacquerware and linen infuse the occasion with Mei Jiang’s signature elegance.

Priced at THB 999++ per person, advance bookings of at least 24 hours are requested for this rare and exclusive experience impossible not to revel in.
