| June 12, 2013
nahm, the award-winning restaurant from chef David Thompson at Metropolitan by COMO, Bangkok, has been ranked 32nd on the list of the ‘World’s 50 Best Restaurants’, sponsored by San Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. The restaurant moves up 18 places from last year, when it was first included in the prestigious awards list.
Accepting the accolade, Thompson said: “It’s been an incredible year with nahm coming third in Asia’s 50 Best and now being included for the second year in the World’s 50 Best. It is a fantastic acknowledgment for all of the team at nahm.”
The World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy is an influential group of over 800 international industry leaders, each selected for their expert opinion.
nahm at Metropolitan, Bangkok, which is part of COMO Hotels and Resorts, opened in September 2010 and quickly became a destination restaurant in Bangkok by virtue of Thompson’s deep knowledge of Thai cuisine. Influenced by centuries-old recipes and cookbooks from private Thai households, his style combines big, bold flavours with meticulous attention to detail, fresh local produce and traditional cooking methods.
Dishes such as southern-style grilled mussels smoked with coconut husks, stir-fried frog with chilies and cumin leaves, or durian steeped in scented coconut cream are complemented by an interior that combines traditional Thai design motifs with the Metropolitan’s contemporary aesthetic. Created by Japanese interior architect Koichiro Ikebuchi, the space is rich in locally-sourced, hand-crafted gold leaf, teak and Thai silks creating an intimate yet relaxed atmosphere.
The restaurant is open weekdays for lunch and Monday to Sunday for dinner.
