Marimekko Fabrics, Fashion, Architecture
Imagine that living miserably among the frigid weather, how you change this crisis to be a chance.
Under the collaboration with Designmuseo (Design Museum, Finland), TCDC is hosting the Marimekko Fabrics, Fashion, Architecture exhibition. Marimekko is a notable design and textile company of Finland.
Marimekko is the ancient Finnish, means a girls dress began in 1951 by Armi Ratia. Among the frozen surrounding and impoverished condition after the World War II, she created many designs and fashions which became a page of 20th fashions history. She brought the new trend to Finnish society by transforming the local textile to be the art work.
With the prominent color, the simple but noticeable design and Finnish identity, Marimekko is recognizable. The Marimekko memorable design are Jokapoika striped shirt which is popular until now and the Unikko design, bright red poppy flowers. Today Unikko is not only flower pattern but also symbol of Marimekko trademark.
The exhibition shows Marimekkos history, inspiration and evolution of company since the established day till now. Inside the exhibition consists of fabric, fashion clothing, accessories and architecture.
Although Marimekko is well known brand around the world, it seems to be irrelevance to the Thai society. Also there is no Marimekko shop in Thailand. This maybe one reason not many are interested in this exhibition. The thing not to miss is the exhibition display. The design of the display was very neat and playful. TCDC has done a great job again in providing a good exhibition display design.
Anyone interested in Armi Ratias works or neat exhibition display design can join this exhibition at 6th floor, The Emporium department store from May 4 to June 18, 2006. |
