On February 28, 2013, Sofitel So Bangkok turns 1 year old, and to mark the occasion there’s a so tempting dining offer for all to share in the celebration from 28th February to 31st March. Guests dining in any of the hotel’s outlets and spending up to Baht 2,800 (after discount and before tax and service charge) will receive per table a voucher worth Baht 2,800 to redeem* on their next visit at either Red Oven, The Water Club, So SPA, or most especially, Park Society, the must-visit restaurant that CNN.com ranks among the best sky-high restaurants in Bangkok.

Equally marking Sofitel So Bangkok’s first year is the opening of its luxurious So VIP Suite and the addition of the final art piece by the hotel’s Signature Designer Monsieur Christian Lacroix.

With the hotel’s overall design concept centred on the traditional Five Elements –Water, Earth, Wood, Metal and Fire – So VIP Suite, located on the 27th floor, is the ultimate accommodation with a water theme. Covering 223 sq. m. and comprising master bedroom, guest bedroom, living room, and dining area, plus two Jacuzzis, this spacious open-design duplex suite is the last word in modern design, playful luxury and technology.

The interior décor, created by well-known Thai designer Pongthep Sagulkul, is stylishly contemporary with clean, elegant lines and well complemented by water-veined black marble flooring, while high-tech facilities range from Apple Mac Mini media entertainment to electric frosted glass technology for instant privacy. Not least, the views are so spectacular, with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides overlooking both Lumpini Park and the city with the Chao Phraya River on the horizon.

To mark the launch of So VIP Suite, along with Sofitel So Bangkok’s 1st anniversary, the hotel is offering a special “So VIP Package” that includes 1 night’s stay with breakfast, spa treatment for two, and dining experience prepared by Iron Chef Award winner Paul Smart all at THB 30,000++ for bookings made directly with the hotel. The offer is available from now until end of May 2013.

Also completed in time for Sofitel So Bangkok’s first anniversary is Monsieur Christian Lacroix’s bold mobile that adorns the hotel’s Street Lobby. In what is his own theatrical reinvention of a traditional mobile, his design comprises a collection of separately hanging wooden pieces fashioned as stylized animals, both real and imaginary. The forms, colours and patterns all convey symbolic interpretations of the Five Elements, while at the same time there is a fun and playful element that expresses a quintessential sense of joie de vivre.

While Sofitel So Bangkok is proud of its design-driven facilities, even more satisfying has been the international recognition it has received in just its first year. Highlights among the several accolades garnered in the last 12 months are “Best Business Hotel 2012” by Wallpaper UK, “Best of the Best 2012” by Robb Report, “Best New Spa 2012” by Thai Spa Association, and “One of the best new places to stay” in the Luxe List by DestinAsian magazine.

“We are naturally delighted to receive such honours, especially is such a short space of time”, says Sofitel So Bangkok General Manager Giles Cretallaz.  “They are a recognition and appreciation of the many unique features that characterize Sofitel So Bangkok, which represents a new generation of urban hotels with an emphasis on innovative design, up-to-the-minute technology and an engaging lifestyle.”

And “lifestyle” is really the word that sums up what Sofitel So Bangkok is all about, a lifestyle that fulfils today’s expectations and delivers the experiences people seek in the modern world. “We always try to surprise our customers with new events,” says Gilles Cretallaz. “Our So Kool Pool Party, visits by world-renowned DJs, and our So Amazing Chefs event, among others, were great successes during the last year.  These are all in line with our positioning as a luxury lifestyle hotel.”

After such a successful first year, both local and international guests at Sofitel So Bangkok can well look forward to much more to enjoy at what is now well recognized as the city’s first truly urban design hotel meeting today’s demands.

*Terms and conditions apply with a minimum spending of Baht 4,000. Vouchers are valid until 30 April 2013.
