I won a prize at a Starwood event to stay here with a limo to pick me up from my house. The limo was a Bently Continental Flying Spur. A 20 million baht car with 6,000cc engine and 552 horse power. It can go from 0 to 100 in 5seconds. It was a little too much for a short city drive but it impressed us and the whole neighborhood. When we arrive we were escorted to the lobby at the 12 floor. The check in was a breeze. Our room was on the 18th floor. It was a Grand Deluxe. It was pretty spacious with high ceiling and large glass window that looks out to the pool and Royal Sports Club golf courses.
My visit was during December 2012 after it open in April the same year. Still very new, some of the rooms and one of the outlets were not open. But the ambiance was spectacular, especially the bar with extra high ceilings and floor to ceiling, wall to wall glass windows. The Royal Sports Club is the foreground for the amazing view of the Bangkok skyline.
The pool faces the west side and also takes advantage of the view of the Royal Sports Club. Hanging around here in the evening was a good opportunity to see the sun set. The water was perfectly refreshing in the afternoon when the sun gave a little warmth to the cool water of December. My son had a blast here.
The breakfast is also something to talk about. They have all the usuals; an international buffet, all types of eggs, some Chinese, some Thai and Japanese. What I don’t usually find is the Hotate sashimi, parma ham and sweet melon, and made to order Chinese noodles.
Our day ended with a wine buffet at decanter. It comes with 4 selections of whites, 4 of reds, 1 rose and all the tapas and cheese we could have. The wine wasn’t premium quality but the ambiance was very classy, dim light, high ceiling and it was a great deal for only 900 baht per person. The service was also very good. The senior sommelier khun X (Akarin) was knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. I would definitely come back.
