The Grand Sukhumvit is one of the hotels that is below the radar, because of the area it is located on is in a quiet neighborhood not many people pass by. But it is so centrally located you’d be surprised how close it is to the BTS and the lower Sukhumvit attractions. Just a couple of steps away is the Nana nightlife/restaurants and the Sukhumvit street shops. Apart from the location, the property offers spacious and nicely furnished rooms, some with wonderful views of the Bangkok skyline.

We were there one weekend to explore the place. The drive to lower Sukhumvit on a weekend day was a breeze. The hotel is on soi 6 but car access is on soi 4 a left turn on two lane one way street leads us to soi 6 and to the right we’ve reached the Grand Sukhumvit hotel. For the approach we see a beautiful tent structure giving shade to a large terrace. The hotel has two towers, the lower tower 15 stories and a higher tower 30 stories. The area is populated with high-raised building mostly condominiums, the Grand Sukhumvit is one of the higher ones in the area. The exterior doesn’t look as appealing compare to the more sophisticated interior. At the lobby while waiting for our check-in, I was a enjoying the beautiful abstract art works on the wall.

After the check-in, we were escort to the spacious Platinum suite, with 54 square meters, the suite has a kitchen and a separated bed room. The kitchen comes with a large refrigerator, a microwave stove and all kitchenware. There are two 32” flat screen TVs, one in the living room and one in the bedroom with many premium cable channels and good reception. What I like about the suite is the views in our room is over looking the Wireless road, Ploenchit Chitlom area and lower Sukhumvit but it does come with a draw back. The windows are wide but it starts a 90 cm above the floor so you won’t be able to enjoy it while seating on the coach or in the bed.

On the fifth floor is the Spa (Bulakorn Spa) and the roof top pool which is positioned between the two hotel towers. The deep turquoise tile in the pool makes it appealing to dive in. But being shaded by the 2 towers the water is very cold. The pool also has jacuzzi attached on the 2 sides of the pool. One floor below is where the fitness is located it was quite small but very well equipped and helpful staff. At the ground floor Cafe de Nimes an all day dinning restaurant with very extensive buffets. There is also 2 bars and a bakery.

Not having been in this area for ages, it would be nice to explore this area with a walk. Knowing that Sukhumvit is only less than a hundred meters away, I opt for an alternative route, the sub sois of Sukhumvit 6 which connect to mid way of soi 4 (Nana). It does change a lot probably due to the popularity of the Nana bars scene at the start the soi. Mid way soi Nana is totally different airy and chilled out with out the density and the crowd. In the evening there are some nice looking restaurants with outdoor seating’s.

For a city hotel that is centrally located with spacious rooms and nice views the Grand Sukhumvit would be a perfect choice.
