Wat Bukhalo (Bukhalo Temple)
Presumably founded in the time of Krung Sri Ayutthaya around year1757, this temple was established on Chao Phraya bank in Tambol Bukhalo, Bangkok. There is no evidence showing who was the founder; however, it was found that the place had faced flood problems several times and needed regular restorations.
Until the reign of King Rama IV of the present Chakri dynasty, Princess Ubon Wanna from Chiang Mai saw the much-decayed temple and called for the restoration. Then, this wat was given a new name Wat Ubon Wannaram in honor of Princess Ubol Wanna. However, the locals still call it Wat Bukhalo until now.
The most significant feature of this place is Mondop (derived from Sanskrits Mandapa, meaning square spired pavilion). It is established on the top floor of a high building, used as Dhammasala or the preaching hall of the temple.
Inside the ordination hall is housed one of the most beautiful buddha image in Thailand, Luang Po Pae (Father Pae).
Besides the beautiful view of Chao Phraya River from Mondop, you can also enjoy feeding several fish at Wang Macha (or Fish Palace) at the pier of Wat Bukhalo.
